I'm interested in your M-51 Fishtail Parka, but the product you describe sounds like a M-65 Fishtail Parka. The difference between a M-51 and a M-65 is the hood. A M-51 parka and hood are sewn together in one-piece (like a "hoodie" sweatshirt); but a M-65 parka has a "mandarin" collar and a removable hood. Thanks, John

A good parka, however, order a size smaller than you're used to. I usually get my jackets and sweaters in XL and purchased an M-51 from an online vendor - the thing was HUGE! The tag reads XL, but this thing should've been XXL or XXXL (maybe the wrong tag sewn in?). Anyhow, just found this site - unbeatable pricing. Anyone know if the German parkas run big, as well?

I beleive the oversizing is paticular to this type of parka by design. It was designed to wear over your pack to keep your gear dry and not frozen. If you not wearing a pack under your parka, it would seem reasonable to step down a couple of sizes. TEZ

I have next to no experience with Military Surplus, but the site recommendation of ordering two sizes smaller was pretty much on the money. It's not as heavy material wise as some of its European Cold Weather equivalents, so it's easier to move around in. Don't know how warm it is though, hasn't got cold up WV way yet. Best price I could find on this parka anywhere, beat Sportsman's Guide and Cabelas (for the exact same item)hands down. Received Item NEW as advertised, good service, no complaints.

Iím a U.S. Army retired ďTanker.Ē Iíve used this cold weather parka many times in some of the coldest, wet weather in Germany. It is excellent for keeping you warm in all kinds of conditions especially if you are layered with thermal underwear. It is very easy to care for. Make sure you pay attention to the size qualifier.
