This is the larger of the two Swiss Army Salt and Pepper Rucksacks(backpacks), it measures 20 x 16 x 8 inches, front pouch is 9 x 11 x 2. These rucksacks are made of an unusually strong canvas that has a salt-and-pepper look to it. Leather shoulder straps and tie-downs. Excellent Swiss craftsmanship. Extra large buckle-down rain flap and a heavy-leather reinforced bottom. Ergonomically contoured internal frame. Excellent Swiss military craftsmanship.

About as well made as a rucksack gets. The canvas is gorgeous, as are all materials used. Bloody big sack too. You could fit 5 bowling balls in there. All around friendly object.

I bought mine 10 years ago. I have taken it all over the world, I've taken it camping, I have abused the thing more than you can imagine and it's still as rugged and durable as the day I bought it. It holds a lot more than you would think. It fits under the seat of a 737 and I don't have to check a bag when I travel. Highly recommended!

I was very happy with the quality of this bag. The leather was a little stiff, but nothing a good mink oil treatment wouldn't fix. Surprisingly comfortable to wear; even has an inner canvas drawstring liner to supplement the main drawstring compartment. Definitely worth the money, it is in astonishingly good shape, and will likely continue to be for many years.

Just got my Swiss Rucksack. Holy Catfish!!
This thing is built like a Tank. I never expected anything built this well. I've only seen stuff like this in very old European Mountaineering pictures. I didn't know stuff this well constructed still exists. The thickness of the leather bottom, is WAY more than I expected. This thing will definitely see some woods time. It will carry a couple of my antique camp stoves to the Ozarks, this spring. Thanks, fellas, I'm proud of this one!

Well made and durable. A design flaw might be that there is no waist belt for added stability. I added one made of a wide strap of leather but attached it in a non-permanent way to enable more versatility. I have found that no matter what you buy, you can make an improvement. So with that in mind, this pack is very close to perfect.

I have owned one of these packs since 2002. My buddy Teddy had one already and when he showed it to me, I fell in love! This pack is so well constructed and so comfortable for anything shy of 3 days worth of gear, that I put it to constant use! I HIGHLY reccomend this pack.

This is the best Ruck money can buy. I bought mine from a different company 16 years ago and used it nonstop. Interior contents of mine is a 60 inch x 96 inch wool blanket, spotting scope with tripod,binoculars, military flashlight, A change of BDU,s 60 rounds of ammo, 35 feet of 3/8 nylon rope, flint fire starter, p-38, and I have a lot more room for my food when I go out with this sack, and then I tie my mummy bag to the top. So if you need a ruck for hunting, hiking, camping or just to have one, this is the bag for you and you WILL NOT regret it!!!

I bought this in 1998. I have used it for everything from camping trips to business trips to personal trips. It stows nicely even in a small passenger jet, yet holds a lot of stuff. It's very well assembled, but doesn't scream "steal me" like a piece of expensive kit. The leather straps and buckles makes it even harder for unwanted hands to relieve you of your possessions. If I could keep only a single bag, this one would be the one I keep.
